LE CONNESSIONI INASPETTATE DELLA NAUTICA: FRA DESIGN, ARTE, CULTURA E SOSTENIBILITÀ

I still wonder, sometimes, what am I doing in a shipyard. Thanks to Driade, I sailed until 2006 other seas, namely those of language trends in international design and architecture, berthing from time to time at the pleasant theatrical and literary islands, which I visited whenever I could, writing passionate reviews. What I am now going to speak about are the unexpected connections I could establish by the open-mindedness of an important entrepreneur such as Massimo Perotti, Knight of Labour and owner of Sanlorenzo shipyards. Thanks to him, we fought the stereotypes ruling in sailing world in those years, when grand and sumptuous yachts were the must. Today, Sanlorenzo is one of the most loved and admired yards all over the world.
My mission, as usual, was to undermine the status quo, bringing a useful disorder in the most deeply rooted convictions. We created and developed in unusual ways a tight link between sailing and art. No one, before, had ever imagined he could be present with nautical items at the Salone del Mobile and, still less, at Art Basel in Basel or Miami, or if you like inHong Kong or Paris with events describing the world of boats; nor, for that matter, in Venice at the Biennale d’Arte or in coincidence with a wonderful exhibition of Alighiero Boetti at the Fondazione Cini – where we presented in a side show on board of a yacht of ours other magnificent Boetti’s works, during the Biennale Preview – or at Triennale of Milan, where we could unravel our story with cinematic quotations à la manière de Lars von Trier…
