EUM (Edizioni Università di Macerata), founded in 2006 within the CEUM (Centro Edizioni dell'Università di Macerata), which in turn was established in 2004, from the outset took on the task of promoting, enhancing and disseminating the results of research and activities carried out for institutional purposes by the University of Macerata.

As a University Press, EUM reflects the University's policy, of which it aims to be a showcase and a radiating point for the main founding values: research, dissemination within the scientific community, education and instruction, dissemination open to the entire society, training, equality and inclusion, quality, collaboration and commitment, sustainability, integrity and publishing ethics.

The focus on the local area is combined with the international dimension of a European university, part of an alliance of seven universities (ERUA) and attentive to the global context of a complex society.

EUM lives within the public university: for this reason it is not conceived as a commercial publishing house, which obeys precise market logics, but as a service offered to the academic community and to society as a whole. Such a conception entails choices that are not conditioned by the logic of the traditional publishing market, but are determined by the need to make available to the various players, both inside and outside the university, the services of a university publishing house devoted to European standards, in compliance with the criteria of cost-effectiveness and efficiency of public expenditure.

Moreover, the transmission of knowledge is not detached from the ethical dimension of the use of communication tools. The university is the guarantor of intellectual property, of respect for copyright, of the protection of the free and respectful circulation of ideas, responding to a strict code of ethics, according to the principles of legitimacy, fairness and transparency.
