The volume examines the legacy of postmodernism, focusing attention on its literary and philosophical values through a dual research that associates textual surveys with its theoretical path. The first chapter offers a reinterpretation of the international debate on post-modernity in light of the most recent critical developments, with the aim of overcoming the theoretical bipolarity that marked the appearance and circulation of the postmodern paradigm in the Italian context. Particular attention is given to the philosophical and narrative implications, which is inherent in a discontinuous and fragmented vision of their historical background. The second chapter analyzes a textual confirmation of the post-modern aesthetic traits in Italo Calvino’s “Le città invisibili”, providing a stylistic and thematic analysis in relation to narrative discontinuity, the ambiguity of urban visions and reflection on temporality. The result is the ethical purpose of a work that is not exhausted through its linguistic and narrative structures, but that intercepts, through its visionary force, the ontological issues of post-modernity.
