We live in a transitional period regarding how children are raised. The speed at which changes are occurring at every level of society is unprecedented in the history of the human race. Traditional family models are evolving and taking on new forms. The flow of people from one end of the world to another has reached dimensions never witnessed before. Communication systems increase the opportunities for the exchange of information, and new technologies make things possible that were inconceivable just a few years before. Amid such rapid change, calling upon traditional models of interaction between parents and children to raise children is problematic. The normal consequence is a certain confusion among adults regarding how to relate with their children in effective and functional ways in order to raise the new generations. How to raise children is in a sort of no man’s land, making it difficult for parents to find stable examples as points of reference. This causes parents to waver between different models, as they often get caught up in new trends that put forth contradictory and unfounded propsals.
Therefore, this book is intended for everyone involved in raising children, both parents and educators. It seeks to build bridges between the latest scientific theories concerning child development during the first years of life and how to interact with them every day, as well as cultural products such as games and nursery rhymes belonging to previous generations. This work stimulates reflection on the principles to be followed so that raising children becomes once again the guidance and orientation of young children.
