All publication proposals are submitted to the editorial committee for a preliminary editorial, technical, and economic evaluation, after which the proposal undergoes an external double-blind peer review, involving two reviewers, primarily drawing on the Register of Referees established at the UPI, the Italian Association of University Presses. At the end of the process the proposal is accepted, rejected or the author/editor is asked to modify it.
If a revision of the work is requested, referees verify that the author has made the necessary changes. Any inconsistencies or failure to accept the proposed changes are submitted by the reviewers to the Editorial Committee for a final evaluation before sending all the documentation to the Board of Directors. A third reviewer may be consulted if one of the two evaluations of the work is completely negative.
Unless there are specific deadlines, reviewers are given 30-60 days to complete their work, and authors are granted the same amount of time to make any necessary revisions and corrections.
Within a maximum period of 3 months, each publication proposal is submitted to the Board of Directors for final approval.
Proposals submitted by the series director or scientific committee will be accompanied by a statement by the series director regarding the quality and scientific validity of the editorial product, while the Editorial Committee retains the responsibility of evaluating the proposals and determining, on a case-by-case basis, whether the work should undergo peer review.
The names of the members of the Board of Directors and of the Editorial Committee are published in the online editorial catalogue. The names of the Directors and the Scientific Committees of each series will be available online and also published in each volume of the series.
